Craniofacial Injury Reconstruction

This analyzable database contains injury coding tools for use in planning and optimizing surgical reconstruction in combat casualties with craniofacial injuries.

Combat casualty craniofacial surgery data are encoded for use in understanding the effects of injury mechanisms and treatments on wounding and restorative care. This information becomes the basis for creating individualized, detailed facial structure models for surgical planning that is tailored to individual patients.

The ability to code and track facial injury enables surgeons to evaluate the effectiveness of various reconstructive methods and optimize surgical planning.

This effort has the potential to enhance surgical techniques, minimize time and costs, and improve results of craniofacial surgery, thereby improving the quality of life of soldiers and others with craniofacial injuries.
